The association between library books, paper and arts has inspired the proposed design of the new library in Varna. The Japanese paper art Origami is the common linking element, which gives the building breathtaking silhouettes and a unique vision. The white and orange colours used are the designer’s reference to the neighbouring building of the Varna Municipality. An atrium divides the building into a northern and southern wing, which also introduces natural daylight to the core of the building. The northern wing accommodates the book depositories, which require minimum air conditioning & energy. The southern wing consisting of 7 floors accommodates the main library for public access. The white wings on the facade are made of translucent facade panels, which give a feeling of airiness, transparency and stability. A rainwater collection is envisaged, which shall be used for watering the greenery and meeting the high standards of fire safety required for such types of buildings.
