Generous open space at the entrance emphasise the interactive and social environment where the auditorium plays basic role (separation of the space is provided). The plaza in front of the library attracts visitors and readers. The design is addressed to the young people to stimulate their active participation in the library activities. Energy efficiency is provided by sun protection, double skin ventilated facade, green wall on the south facade. The design of the green wall aims to create a landmark for the city centre. The roof glass skin with a dappled texture filters ultraviolet light and creates a tranquil and inspirational area for reading and working in the main reading hall with panorama view to the Black sea and Varna harbour area. The design team embraces the city’s urban culture and climate, striving to create the right library for Varna by establishing a vibrant, welcoming and accessible public space in the heart of this fast developing ancient city with intriguing history.
